The goal of this three-year leadership program is to develop engaged leaders who can put their ideas into action for the benefit of their communities, Canada, and the rest of the globe. Each year, scholars are chosen, and they are given considerable financing for their education as well as leadership training in the context of Brave Spaces.

Organization Of The Impact Conference
In their second year, Scholars arrange a public conference to share information with the public and promote community dialogue on important societal issues, building on the experience and leadership training they obtained in year one. Fellows and Mentors offer them advice and support.
Presentation Of The Impact Conference
During the third and final year of the leadership program, scholars hold their conference event. In an effort to democratize knowledge and enhance social inclusion, the Impact Conference provides an opportunity to test out a wide range of knowledge dissemination strategies and innovative formats.

- Their mentors and fellows provide leadership training, as well as special experiential learning opportunities that enhance and supplement their academic experience.
- Opportunities to improve one’s command of Indigenous languages and the French and English that make up Canada’s official languages
- Lifelong membership in the Foundation’s alumni network.
- To concentrate on their PhD studies and the Foundation’s leadership program, they will receive up to $40,000 each year for three years in tuition reimbursement and fair living costs.
- Up to $20,000 per year for three years, for studying foreign languages (see below), traveling and lodging while participating in the Foundation’s leadership program, and engaging in networking and research activities while conducting PhD work.
Your Commitment
Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholars must:
- Participate in Foundation live and online activities, such as Retreats and Institutes of Engaged Leadership that have been especially created for them. NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 issue, the format of next events will be modified in compliance with regional and national laws. If circumstances permit, there may be a few small in-person meetups. If not, the Foundation will keep involving its community in digital activities.
- During the second year of the leadership program, collectively plan a conference event (Impact Conference), and present this conference during the third year.
- Volunteer in their communities: Outside of Foundation programming, active Scholars are required to carry out 30 hours of community service or projects annually and report on their endeavors to the Foundation. Particularly in light of COVID-19, the Foundation adopts a broad perspective on volunteers.
- Take steps, through formal or informal training, to advance their ability in the Official Language with which they are less familiar if they are not fluent in both of Canada’s Official Languages (French and English). In the leadership program, scholars also promise to learn more about Canada’s indigenous languages.
Languages Learning
All Scholars who are not fluent in both of the Official Languages (French and English) are required to make efforts to increase their proficiency in the Official Language with which they are less comfortable through official or informal training. Following their nomination, Scholars will also have access to Foundation-led learning opportunities in one or more Indigenous Languages, as well as the option to seek further in-depth instruction in an Indigenous Language. The creation and submission of Study Plans for the additional language study will be required of Scholars.
